Serpent has been described several times as very "cool, calm and collected", even in the most extreme circumstances. He is clearly not afraid of anything and is willing to take on anything thrown at him, regardless of the dangers. It is likely this ability to remain calm and collected that allows him to win through in the toughest situations, and certainly adds to his "tough-guy" image. However, Serpent clearly does not have as high an opinion of himself as others do of him. Although he has been called a hero many times by different people, he has invariably denied it, claiming: "There are no heroes in war" and, after his accelerated aging: "I'm no hero, never was. I'm just an old killer, hired to do some wet work", and also referring to himself as a beast, "a shadow on which no light can fall." On that subject, he displays an almost vindictive frankness towards what is really murder, claiming that some people "just need killing".

History
(Real name Adam, Commonly referred to as Serpent) is a product of the Le Jumeau project and "son" of the legendary soldier, "Steel Serpent" or "Big Boss". Possessing an IQ of 185 and fluent in seven languages, he is known as "the man who makes the impossible possible" and his exploits have made him into a living legend among the Military and Special Ops. Initially a Green Beret, Serpent was later inducted into high-tech special forces unit BLOODHOUND after his brief career with SILVERFANG.

Born in 2206 as a result of the "Le Jumeau" project. Metal Serpent was a product of a secret government project to create the perfect soldier, using the genes of the "Greatest Warrior of the 22nd Century", Steel Serpent or Big Boss. By utilizing the Super Baby Method, six clone babies were grown using Big Boss’ cells merged with eggs taken from a healthy American woman. five of the babies were aborted to promote growth in the last remaining one, who was then injected into the womb of Catherine. Nine months later the baby was born: Metal Serpent. The clone was modified on the genetic level, Metal Serpent received all the inferior soldier genes and exceptionally good sight.

Following his birth, Serpent was given the name "Adam." He spent the first ten years of his life in the state of Maryland with intense military training. During the summer months he would make weekly visits to a small, privately owned theme park known as “Fun Island.”

Serpent made his way into the National Alliance Militairy by 2225. He had been inducted into the Green Berets and took part in a mission to infiltrate Northern Russia during the Unification. Later, he joined Big Boss's special forces unit SILVERFANG, during which time he received the codename "Metal Serpent." He also underwent personal CQB training by Big Boss at this time, he chose not to implement a technique created by "a man who betrayed his unit,"[6] and vowed never to use it again. However, he would lift this self-imposed ban much later in his life.

Serpent's first mission for SILVERFANG came in 2229. He was tasked with infiltrating a National Alliance Facility in an effort to retrieve blue prints for a highly advanced missle, however strangely Serpent wasn't given much specifics on why they wanted the blue prints only given a location of an archive where it was being kept through high security objects, everything was going smoothly until Phoenix arrived on the scene then an outbreak of gun fire erupted causing an interior warzone. It turned out Metal Serpent was being used as a diversion for a plan to take control of the facility for Phoenix and use it against the National Alliance, Metal Serpent saw many innocent civilians die in the outbreak this changed his views on SILVERFANG and he had immediatly left the scene and SILVERFANG forever.

Metal Serpent later joined up with BLOODHOUND only after a few days of the massacre at the National Alliance facility, luckily after Serpent informed his superiors about the incident the National Alliance was able to take back the Facility and restore order in that small part of Russia. It was at around 2230 that Serpent was given a task to meet up with a BLOODHOUND operative for a discussion. Turns out the Operative was working with SILVERFANG and they were infiltrating the ranks of BLOODHOUND to gather intel on them and the National Alliance, Serpent managed to take out the traitor and escape the trap quickly. Later returning to BLOODHOUND to report the information and discovering that a small group know as "TALON" was behind the plot to infiltrate BLOODHOUND, Serpent specifically was sent to track down TALONS leaders and take them out destroying the organization as a whole. Serpent managed to do the task successfully only to encounter the Big Boss who was running the organization. Turns out after he left SILVERFANG he joined up with Phoenix and developed TALON, a heated emotional battle erupted, Serpent lost his left eye due to a throwing knife used by Big Boss who then retreated. Serpent was lying in pain before he realized Big Boss planted Satchel Charge's around the entire facility in an attempt to destroy all evidence of TALON's work and to get rid of Metal Serpent for good. Luckily, Serpent was able to escape in time just before the place collapsed he never saw Big Boss again.

After returning to BLOODHOUND a scientist by the name of Lora Guccelo was able too replace Serpents damaged eye with another similiar eye though it would forever damage his Superb Sight. Serpent was later given a powerful device known as the "Metal Eye" designed by Florence Malcroy a entrepenuer at technology it was placed on his left eye and once activated could switch from Nightvision, Combat Sensors, Heat Vision, even a Camera. Metal Serpent had continued doing impossible tasks for Bloodhound earning the rank of Vanguard and being considered a Hero and Legend by many Militairy personnel, however it was around this time that Serpent began realizing he was aging rather quickly finding out later from Professor Lora Guccelo that due to the cloning process his cells were aging at an accelerated rate she even told Serpent he may have only 1-2 years left to live. After Serpent found out this information he started smoking only worsening the accelerated aging eventually re-naming himself Rusty Serpent because of the aging process, at this time Professor Lora Guccelo created an injection to help slow the aging process down and decrease stress which could increase the aging rate it had become an asset to Serpent to use these injections and he carries them around everywhere just in case they are needed, though not even the fact that he is dying at a fast rate can stop him from doing tasks and decrease the strength of his will, to this day he still serves BLOODHOUND and will stop at nothing to take down Phoenix.
